What a school year feels like

Life at School

A school year

Ordinary days. Ten years of them.

Most of school is ordinary: coached sport on the turf before class, a classroom the children look after themselves, a Friday when Grade 1 counts the class kitty. The festivals and events below are where those days show up in public.

MorningsFootball and yoga on the turf, before class.
Their own roomChildren keep their classroom: plants, shelves, the library desk.

The school year

A Year, in Three Stretches

Festivals and events are part of how children learn about people and places. We show a date only where we have one: this year’s events that have already happened.

Leaves, light and grandparents

  1. Eco Ganesh

Leaf cards, made from real leaves. Children work in pairs, one helping the other place a leaf.

  2. World Photography Day

Sun prints. Children set leaves and flowers on paper in trays, take them out into the sun, then watch the pictures develop.

  3. Grandparents’ Day

    18 Sep 2026

The day grandparents come to school.

The festival months

Dussehra, World Food Day, Diwali

  1. Dussehra

    19 Oct 2026

Grade 1 pairs each Navratri colour with a virtue: orange is courage. Grade 3 builds a three-dimensional Saraswati Yantra. Children come in festive clothes.

  2. World Food Day

    16 Oct 2026

Little Chefs, Big Bites. Mixed-age teams cook without a flame, with the older children as Head Chefs. Grade 2 makes, prices and sells laddoos.

  3. Diwali

Stalls, many of them run by parents, and decor the children make themselves. Their doodles and uneven crafts stay in.

Themes, sport and a show

  1. Culture Connect

Many homes, many traditions, one India. Children stand at the microphone and share something from home: a dish, a song, a dress.

  2. Green Day and Greenopia

Clean home, clean school, happy hearts. In Greenopia, children write the “Use natural light” posters that go above the light switches.

  3. Yoga

Part of the morning on the turf. On International Yoga Day the mats come out under bunting.

  4. Sports Day

Officially a fun day, not a performance. Every child does the same activities, with the difficulty set to the child, so no one is left out.

  5. A show every term

Music and the arts are taught by specialists, and every term has a show.

Every child has a real job
